The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has received and released the NCAA’s amended notice of allegations resulting from a joint investigation of academic irregularities. It can be found here.
The University previously disclosed the original notice of allegations sent in May 2015 and reported new information last August that the NCAA determined warranted the revised notice.
“We are carefully reviewing the amended notice of allegations resulting from our joint investigation with the NCAA and will respond with facts and evidence that present a full picture of our case,” said Bubba Cunningham, director of athletics. “The University takes these allegations extremely seriously. We remain committed to cooperating fully with the NCAA while working tirelessly to secure a fair outcome for Carolina.”
The University posted a public record copy of the amended notice on the Carolina Commitment website on April 25, 2016.
On May 12, 2016, the University also posted accompanying exhibits the NCAA calls “factual information,” or FIs, as well as a chart listing them that came with the notice, following a legally mandated review to protect privacy rights. Most of the 112 FIs refer to previously released University-commissioned reports and other records, including items related to the independent investigation led by Kenneth Wainstein. The University published 1,129 pages of exhibits and supplementary materials with Wainstein’s report on Oct. 22, 2014. The University received the amended notice on April 25, and will respond within the NCAA’s new 90-day deadline. Consistent with NCAA protocols, University officials cannot comment on details about the investigation until it is completed.
